| I cannot, in good faith, let the amazingness that is the Dune series by Frank Herbert go inexplained to Twilight Nation. Here's a brief summary from http://www.dunenovels.com/classic.html"Frank Herbert's Dune series is one of the grandest epics in the annals of imaginative literature. Selling millions of copies worldwide, it is science fiction's answer to The Lord of the Rings, a brilliantly imaginative epic of high adventure, unforgettable characters, and immense scope. Set on the desert planet Arrakis, DUNE is the story of the boy Paul Atreides, who would become the mysterious man known as Muad’Dib. He would avenge the traitorous plot against his noble family—and would bring to fruition humankind’s most ancient and unattainable dream. A stunning blend of adventure and mysticism, environmentalism and politics, DUNE formed the basis of what is undoubtedly the grandest epic in science fiction."
As a HUGE fan of both the Dune series, and the Lord of the Rings series, I whole heartedly agree. Frank Herbert wrote the original 6 novels in the series in the 60's and 70's. His son Brian Herbert, along with Kevin J Anderson (both of whom will be at Comic Con, by the way *does yet another happy dance*) have continued the series since his death and have published 11 prequels and sequels to the original story. The first movie adaptation was in 1984 and starred Kyle McLachlan http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0087182/ . (This is the only acceptable version in my not-so-humble opinion, lol.) The Sci-Fi channel did a remake of the first Dune book in mini-series form in 2000 starring William Hurt http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0142032/ and a sequel mini-series in 2003 for the second book called Children of Dune starring James McAvoy http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0287839/ . I own both of these as well, simply because they're part of the Dune videography at this point. They're worth watching. Because they're mini-series length they get into more of the story, but like in any other book-to-movie situation, they don't hold a candle to the books. This is the imdb.com link for what I'm guessing is the remake everyone's been talking about. http://www.imdb.com/title/tt1160419/ . There's not a whole lot of concrete info yet, but I did notice there are posts mentioning Rob. You all know how much I love Twilight, I would never intentionally "diss" anything fandom related. But I have to say... the idea Rob playing Paul Atreides just makes my brain scream "NNNNOOOOOOOOOO". I will, of course, wait and see with the rest of the world. And Lord knows I don't get a say in the matter. But I just can NOT imagine him in this role. Hopefully, if all the rumors are true, my imagination gets a lot better really fast. :-/

| OMG you're OLD! Better get some of that "fountain of youth" ready. Oh Edward my dear... Okay, answer time. ~~~~~~~~~~~~ Why do I like vampires~ I have a few reasons but i'll try to keep to my major ones. The first reason I like vampires is because they challenge the norm. I'm fascinated with the anthropological aspect of how a vampire functions both physically and culturally. Now that doesn't mean I'm looking for capes and coffins, I more enjoy seeing how they might coexist with our society. I think it's ridiculous as it is that humans think of themselves as the top predator/life-force in this world and it's interesting to see what things might be like if there was some proof (for the readers) that we aren't as grand as we imagine ourselves to be. I also like to see the way human nature and animalistic nature would function within the same body. Sadly some of the most interesting things about vampires (in my opinion) still haven't been explored as in depth and realistically as I think they could be. For example, Rob turned Edward into a much darker character than Stephenie's original vamp. I thoroughly enjoyed Edward from the book but if I'm supposed to believe he's real, I want to see the inner conflict. I would expect any creature living as long as a vampire, with such great intellect, would probably suffer mental break downs every few decades. It just seems like part of their reality. I would love to see a real psychological take on a vampire through the ages. As a final note I find the idea of living forever to be both terrifying and captivating. I'm not into the darker aspects of the myths and folklore but I do like to imagine what I would do with eternal life. A little light reading anyone?... There, that's the short version ;D |

| Is it just my episode that I downloaded from iTunes, but did everyone's go blank for periods of time?
I missed the Hollas - it went to the end right after the intro (the end of Hollas, that is) and then about three quarters the way through, it was silent for 16 minutes until Random Fandom.
Perhaps I should redownload it and listen to it again, maybe something went wrong, or did this happen to everyone?
